I was able to get a fair amount of time working on the Left Elevator today. I put the RTV onto the stiffeners per the build instructions.
This shows the skin all riveted accept for the pulled rivets on the rear spar for the trim tab. I needed to order a larger drill bit to open the holes up for the pulled rivets. Also, I will use blind rivets in the last rivets on the outboard end of the substructure, since I could not get a squeezer or bucking bar on them. A "no hole" yoke may have helped, but that is on my list of tools, not in my toolbox.
After riveting the skin, I moved it onto the shelf and started working on the trim tab. Here is the tab being folded.
I fabricated a new set of bending blocks to fold the tabs. I made these out of a scrap of oak flooring I had laying around out in the shed.
Completed bend with the fold lined up with the un-bent areas
Here is the trim tab with the the hinge clamped in place ready to start drilling.
Until next time...
