Elevator attachment and travel

Writer's picture: Matt DeCraeneMatt DeCraene

The first thing I did today was pull the elevator back off to adjust the rod ends. After adjusting them, I torqued the jam nuts and torque sealed them. I needed to trim the skin on the left side of the hs to clear the counterbalance.

The next step calls for using a drill busing to drill a 1/4 hole in the weldment. I did not have anything the correct size, so I used my drill press as a poor man’s lathe to reduce the diameter of a piece of tube I had handy.

It then gets placed in the bearing to protect it and center a drill bit.

After drilling I installed a temporary bolt to figure out spacers. One washer on this side.

Two washers on the other.

I left the elevator clamped in trail for the next step at the end of the day.
